Professional Qualifications
Elena A. Balzac received her Ph.D. in Clinical & Health Psychology in 1993 from
the University of Florida, completing an area of specialization in
Neuropsychology. She continued her clinical training and neuropsychological
emphasis during her internship at Baylor College of Medicine (1992-1993) and a
post-doctoral fellowship in geriatric psychology at the Houston, TX VA Medical
Center (1993-1994). She previously worked at Hutchings Psychiatric in
Syracuse, New York, conducting outpatient individual and group therapy with
chronically and severely mentally ill adults. She conducted psychological and
neuropsychological evaluations and was a clinical supervisor for psychology
interns as part of the APA-approved internship at Hutchings. She also
worked as a staff neuropsychologist at Boston Medical Center, providing
evaluations to a linguistically and ethnically diverse population. In both these
locations, much of Dr. Balzac’s work was with the Latino population, with
therapy and testing done in Spanish. Currently, in addition to her private
practice, Dr. Balzac teaches psychological assessment to psychology interns as
part of the South Shore Mental Health APA-approved internship program.
Dr. Balzac has extensive experience in the treatment and assessment of children,
adolescents, and adults. She is a licensed psychologist in MA where she has been
practicing for over 10 years. She is a member of numerous professional
organizations, including the American Psychological Association, Massachusetts
Psychological Association, International Neuropsychological Society, and the
Hispanic Neuropsychological Society.
